5 Signs That You Might Be Caught in a Cycle of Mediocrity

You’re Bored at Work – You feel stuck. It is time for change but you either don’t know what to do instead, or you aren’t sure how to go about doing it. You want to walk out but don’t know what you would do instead. You dream of getting fired. It has been a long time since your heart has been in your work. Your boss knows it, your co-workers sense it, and your bank account shows it.

Easily Riled But Conflict Averse – Being a hothead with people who can’t do anything about it is easy. But the idea of conflict with someone who could actually kick your ass, or even worse, affect your income makes you sick to your stomach. Probably best to just keep talking shit about them to your friends and rehearsing those arguments that you will never have in the shower.

Lackluster Marriage – There’s nothing really wrong with it, but there’s nothing really great about it either. The fireworks are gone, the friendship is dwindling. You have become roommates who still “do it” for birthdays and holidays. If your eyes are wandering, you can bet your anti-snore mouthpiece that hers are too.

You have a longer list of “One of these days, I’m gonna…” than things you’re proud of – You are waiting for the day to arrive that you can really start living your life again; you are out of debt, the kids have moved out, work settles down, the schedules get a little bit more manageable. Then you’re gonna get the gym 3, maybe 5 days a week, drop that 20lbs (it’s 30 dude), maybe do one of those mud run things. That day isn’t coming.

Lack of Motivation – Every night when you go to bed, you set your running shoes out, set the alarm for 5am, decide that you are going to cut sugar, bread, dairy, red meat, donuts and energy drinks out of your diet. Your head hits the pillow with the Rocky theme playing, tomorrow you are going to crush it! Then the alarm goes off at 5am… No, not today… But tomorrow, for sure, tomorrow you are going to crush it. Today, you are going to get that extra sleep, eat whatever you want (one final hurrah) and then tomorrow, the world is yours. <REPEAT>

It may be this way now, but it doesn’t have to stay this way.

You have everything you need, right now, just as you are, to have the life that you want.

You just need someone to show you where that stuff is, to shine a light on it, make you use it. Being mediocre is a choice, so is being amazing.
